Silkcircle

As you probably already know, the fashion industry has an extremely high carbon footprint, and it is the second most polluting industry in the world. Even though we are aware of that, most people do not take action to fight this ecological and ethical crisis.

We want to raise awareness about issues surrounding sustainable fashion. We wanted to investigate if a mobile app is an effective way to engage consumers in sustainable fashion. This clear intention gave rise to our research question, which is as follows: How can technology positively encourage people to participate in sustainable clothing purchasing practices?

To determine if technology can be a positive factor of change, we created an app that allows users to know more about their own clothing. The most important feature of the app is to take a picture of a clothing label and get information about the garment. We also included valuable information and statistics about the global consequences of fast fashion. Finally, we included ways to engage in more sustainable practices. A sustainability score summarizes the impact of the user's clothes on the environment.

Thanks to our user research, we now know more about our public, their habits, and their intentions. After interacting with the app, users were more aware of the problematics surrounding fashion and were also willing to take part in more sustainable practices.
