Youth Night

Madeline “Hops” Zaytsoff
Madeline “Hops” Zaytsoff is a producer of interactive and entertainment media. Her focus lies in horror and though the medium of the work often varies (video games, movies, podcast, comics, etc.), her humour and distinct relationship with punk art always bleeds into the project at hand.

Youth Night

Set in the early 2000s, Youth Night is a game that explores the concept of growing up queer in a religious community and the fear that comes from realizing it’s only a matter a time until everyone knows your secret. Explore the church while you search for your friend, avoid the monstrosities that lurk the floors, and find out what really happens to those who consume the blood of Christ.

This stage of development focuses on the aesthetic system which takes great lengths to borrow from early 2000s video games as well as DIY punk art. A custom camera rig and shading system needed to be built to give everything a dreamy, nostalgic feeling. By combining this rig with low-poly models and pixelated texture maps, a gritty visual is produced that almost looks like you could physically touch it.
