Cyber Security in Game Design

Since I am interested in Game design, I have noticed a serious issue that every year the hackers cause millions of loss to the video game companies. Recent examples are the hacking of EA and Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs. The hackers gained the source code and sold them on the darknet, which leads to privacy issues and financial loss.

In this project, I aim to find out how the hackers hack video games and how we can protect ourselves. My major method is searching for information online, analysing and sorting them out. I also use my own knowledge and experience on coding to explore the topic.

My final prototype is a video that tells a story of hacking in video game. I choose a video because it is a good way of story telling. I hope to reveal how hackers break into the game system by using ransomware and other malwares. The content of this video shows a typical method and process of the hacking work, based on the information I collected. The end of the video doesn’t tell the answer straightforward. But I hope to inspire the viewer of the possible solutions. The video is not like a classic film that tells every detail, but I arranged key images together so the viewers will be able to understand the storyline I am trying to tell. The elements of the videos come from some informative YouTube video, as well as some gifs images.
